Night fishing can be a very rewarding way to spend a weekend evening out on the water away from any crowds or fishing pressure. Many record walleye, crappie, bass and catfish have been caught while night fishing. Amazingly not many fisherman take advantage of the opportunity to go night fishing and probably for good reason… They don’t know how! Fishing at night can be very rewarding but there are some night fishing tips and guidelines you must adhere to fish for your favorite species such ascatfish. My article today is about some important night fishing equipment that you need to have on every night fishing trip, to be successful and SAFE!

#1 Underwater fishing lights.

I always put this item at the top of my night fishing equipment list and for good reason. The best florescent submersible's use 25-40watts of power , and they emit 1000 to 3000 lumens per tube. Submerged lighting sources will attract all kinds of little micro organisms called plankton. Plankton the primary food source of most bait fish. When bait fish start swarming around your underwater fishing light they attract great numbers of game fish that are looking at an easy meal! You just drop your lines a the outer edges of the light source and you are in business! I love going night fishing because of the variety of game fish you can catch at night. You can catch walleye, catfish, crappie and bass ! It doesn’t matter they are all their for an easy meal. And it is my opinion I could of caught very few of these fish without a good underwater fishing light source.

#2 Surface night fishing lights.

It is very important that you have a good light source that projects light across the surface of the water. There are two very important reasons for this.As I stated above you need to be safe out on the water. Surface lighting will identify you to other night fisherman and recreational boaters. There are not many out at night but enough to cause watercraft accidents. MOST of these accidents are form improper surface lighting. The second reason is very important too. The light source will pro-ject across the surface and attract insects, yes I said attract insects! Insects attract bait fish and bait fish attract mare game fish! Just make sure you hang these lights outside of your boat so you keep most of the insects away from you. If you use a Coleman type lantern for night fishing make sure you shield the side facing into the boat so the light reflect back out and across the water. This limit the amount of insects that will attack you in the boat.

#3 Pre-Planning is important! Before you decide to go night fishing it is very important to do some preplanning. Make a check list of all the items that will be essential after nightfall. Also get out and scout the areas you want to night fish for the evening. If you have a GPS to mark them that would be great. If you do not have a GPS identify land marks that you will be able to identify after night fall.

walleye fishing

When you decide where you want to go on your next fishing trip in the summer months it is time to do some pre-planning. If you want to save precious fishing time then you need to construct a plan for the start of your fishing trip. I have provide you below some simple walleye fishing tips for fishing walleye live baits in the summer..

#1 Pick up a topographical map of the area you plan to fish.

Circle all weed bed areas on your map that have adjacent depth changes of more then a foot. When the weather is right and there is a wave chop, these areas are gold mine for walleye fishing.

#2 Contact a local bait shop.

Do some research and find a local bait dealer or fishing chat room that is local to the area you are going to be fishing. I am surprised how many people forget this important pre-planning walleye fishing tip. Find out what are the most used and most effective live baits. Make sure you ask specific questions for the time of the year you plan to fish these local areas.

#3 Attach shinny spinner blades and rattles to your live bait walleye fishing rigs.

No matter what water I am fishing I have had very good luck using flashing spinner blades and small rattles attached right above my walleye baits about 6 to 12 inches.

# 4 Suggested live baits for walleye fishing:

As a rule of thumb, the norm suggested live bait for summer walleye fishing is either night crawlers or ribbon leaches. Your conversation on a local fishing chat room or from a local bait dealer may change the norm. They may know some specific tips to fish the local area that may be different from the norm. In the spring the norm usually is walleye minnows. Depending on the time you plan to fish the area minnows that are caught from the local waters still may be a viable live bait option in the summer months also.

#5 Weather conditions:

5a When the day is sunny and there is no wave chop, head to the weed beds! Go deep into the beds and look for open pockets . Vertical jig using a ¼” oz lead head jig tipped with a ribbon leach or large night crawler. Attach bright spinner blades and line rattles if needed. These areas are hard to fish, but surprisingly productive. I pulled a 6 lb walleye out of one of these pockets.

5b If there are waves then head directly to the weed bed areas you circled on your topographical map. Back troll or drift parallel to the weed bed so your bait drifts within 5ft of the edge of the weed beds. Use a bottom bouncing rig here. Make sure you attach spinner blades and a line rattle approximately 12 inches above your bait. These area’s can be walleye fishing honey holes if the weather is right.

Learning to Tie the Best Fly Fishing Knot

July 2nd, 2009

Fly fishing knot tying can be an intimidating process to a new fly fisherman and each fly fisherman has his own opinions as to what knots work best on different sections of the line, so that it is hard to get a good idea of what the best fly fishing knots are to use in different places on the line.  Tying the best fly fishing knots are important to fly fishermen since they are what hold the five sections of the line together so that a large fish does not accidentally pull the line apart just when they are about to be reeled in, causing yet another yarn to be told about the huge fish that got away.

There are many different books and websites that can be found to give a tutorial to a new fly fisherman who is trying to learn how to tie the best fly fishing knots.  There are normally five different knots that he will need to know how to tie without having to look at the directions once he is out on the water.  That means he must practice these knots at home so that he can do them without thinking about it, and then bring his directions along if he needs them the first few times on the water.

Tips to Tying Solid Knots

There are certain tips the fly fishermen follow to ensure the best fly fishing knots possible when they are on the water.  One tip is that they always wet the knots either with saliva or with the water in the river before they tighten the knot.By doing so, it ensures a tighter knot that is less likely to come undone at an inopportune moment.  Another tip to tying the best fly fishing knot is to trim the knot as close as possible without interfering with the knot itself, so that there are not stray ends of line hanging off of it that can interfere with the way the line should move the fly when cast.

In addition to these tips, the fly fisherman should be careful not to jerk the knot tight when trying to tie the best fly fishing knot because that can leave some loose places in the knot that a large fish could jerk out, snapping the line.  It is also a good idea to check all knots each time he gets ready to go fly fishing so that he can find any frayed places in the line or any knots that have loosened since the time he last fished. That way he can replace the line and also retie any knots that need it so that the best fly fishing knots are there and ready for the next big catch.

An Important Task: Tying a Fly Fishing Knot

July 2nd, 2009

Tying a fly fishing knot is one of the most important things a fly fisherman must know how to do.Since the line is actually composed of different types of lines in addition to the fly at the end of it, tying a solid fly fishing line knot is extremely important so that none of the parts come loose during the fishing process, causing the fisherman to have to tell about the 'one that got away.'

Tying a Good Knot

There are some general tips that help a fly fisherman to tie good fly fishing knots that will not come loose in inopportune times.  One tip is to moisten the knot with water or saliva before pulling it tight, which helps it to hold more tightly once it is pulled.  Another tip is to tighten the knot with a steady pull rather than jerking it tight, since it will cause it to have a more uniform snugness throughout the knot, so that a fish tugging at it will not all of a sudden draw a part of the knot tight and cause the line to snap.

In addition, it is always important to check the fishing line around each knot to make sure there is not an abrasion or any other feature that might show the fly fisherman that he may need to redo the fly fishing knot in that particular area.  If the line or the knot looks worn or frayed then he is wise to go ahead and replace the line and tie another fly fishing knot in that section so that he will not lose any line or flies, not to mention a great catch.  When the fly fishing knots are formed, they should also be trimmed so that there are not any stray pieces of line hanging out to the side.  The fly fisherman has to be careful about this however so that he does not cut too close and ruin the fly fishing knot he just produced.

There are a series of different fly fishing knots that are used when getting a fly fishing line ready for the water.  Starting closest to the reel, an Arbor knot is usually used to connect the backing to the spool of the reel.  After that, an Albright fly fishing knot is usually used to tie the fly line to the backing, which is a little tricky because the lines are usually made of different materials.  A Nail knot is next, which connects the leader to the fly line, which is important because this is what turns the fly over at casting.Next is the Double Surgeon's fly fishing knot which is used to connect the tippet to the leader.  Finally, the Improved Clinch knot is usually used to connect the fly to the tippet, thus completing the fly fishing line.

Fly Fishing for Large Mouth Bass

July 1st, 2009

Fishing for bass can provide some of the most exciting fly fishing in the country. More people probably fish for largemouth bass than any other species. The wide distribution of bass may account for its popularity with fishermen. Largemouth bass can be found from southern Canada to South America. Fly fishing for smallmouth bass is also exciting but since they prefer cooler water they are not as widespread as largemouth.

Generally, the warmer the water, the larger the bass will grow. For example, a four or five pound bass may be large for a northern lake, but warmer southern waters regularly produce fish weighing 10 pounds or more. The temperature of the water is a key factor in the food available for bass to eat.

Just after spawning is usually the best time to catch bass. This will also depend on water temperatures. For largemouth bass, spawning takes place when the water temperatures reached the low to mid-60s. In a cold climate state like Michigan, bass may spawn in June, while a warmer state like Lousiana spawning may start in February.

The behavior of the largemouth bass is also influenced considerably by the  temperature at the top of the water. On hot summer days, they usually feed during the early morning hours and then again during the last few hours of daylight, when the sun isn't as bright and the water temperature is cooler. Bass are generally found in areas of the water that have a lot of vegetation and cover. They spend a lot of time near the water's edge among the grasses, reeds, and other plants.

Artificial lures such as bugs and poppers are frequently used for largemouth bass. Poppers were designed as a surface lure to be skipped across the top of the water in a series of quick retrieves. Other good fly patterns for largemouth bass or the Muddler Minnow and the Wooly Worm. There are some fly fishermen that prefer to use streamers and bucktail.

Techniques for bass fly fishing differ from those used for trout. Poppers are worked not only for their appearance but also for their sound. Generally, when a fly is cast for bass it should be allowed to remain unmoving for a longer period of time than for trout. It is estimated that 60% of bass strikes are made on a still fly. Bass tend to inspect your fly for some time before making the decision whether to take it or not.

At times, fly fishermen like to tease the bass with repeated casts over the area where they think he's hiding. Teasing can sometimes be a very effective method in bringing a lazy fish up for a strike when nothing else seems to work.

The sport of fly fishing for large mouth bass can be difficult but the rewards for success is well worth the effort. You should try it!

Brief Detail About UK Visa Types

June 30th, 2009

The issuing authority may also require applicants to attest that they have had no criminal convictions, or that they do not partake in certain activities(like prostitution or drug trafficking). Some countries will deny visas if the travelers passports show evidence of citizenship or travel to a country which is not recognized by that country. Go to australia migration for more information.

For example, some Muslim countries will not issue visas to nationals of Israel or those whose passports bear evidence of visiting Israel.Transit visa generally valid for 5 days or less, for passing through the country to a third destination. Special Category Visa is a type of Australian visa granted to most New Zealand citizens on arrival in Australia.

New Zealand Citizens may then permanently reside in Australia under the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement. Immigrant visa, granted for those intending to immigrate to the issuing country. They usually are issued for a single journey as the holder will, depending on the country, later be issued a permanent resident identification card which will allow the traveler to enter to the issuing country an unlimited number of times.(for example, the United States Permanent Resident Card).

Marriage visa, granted for a limited period prior to intended marriage based on a proven relationship with a citizen of the destination country. For example, a German woman who wishes to marry an American man would obtain a Fiancee Visa (also known as a K-1 visa) to allow her to enter the United States.A K1 Fiancee Visa is valid for four months from the date of its approval.Temporary worker visa, for approved employment in the host country. These are generally more difficult to obtain but valid for longer periods of time than a business visa. Examples of these are the United States H-1B and L-1 visas.

Tourist visa, for a limited period of leisure travel, no business activities allowed. Some countries do not issue tourist visas. Saudi Arabia introduced tourist visas only in 2004 although it did (and still does) issue pilgrimage visas for Hajj pilgrims. Business visa, for engaging in commerce in the country. These visas generally preclude permanent employment, for which a work visa would be required. Refer to new zealand migration for more information.

Electronic visa is applied for over the internet and stored in a computer and is tied to the passport number. Australia (calling it ETA) and the United States (from 2009, calling it ESTA) have this system, although it is not called visa by the US.The validity of a visa is not the same as the authorized period of stay in the issuing country.

The visa validity usually indicates when the alien can apply for entry to the country. For example, if a visa has been issued January 1 and expires March 30th, and the typical authorized period of stay in a country is 90 days, then the 90-day authorized stay starts on the day the passenger reaches the country, which has to be between January 1 and March 30th. The traveler could therefore stay in the issuing country until July 1st.

Once in the country, the validity period of a visa or authorized stay can often be extended for a fee at the discretion of immigration authorities. Overstaying a period of authorized stay given by the immigration officers is considered illegal immigration even if the visa validity period is not over (i.e.for multiple entry visas) and a form of being out of status and the offender may be fined, prosecuted, deported, or even blacklisted from entering the country again.

The term illegal alien commonly refers to a foreign national who resides in another country unlawfully, either by entering that country at a place other than a designated port-of-entry or as result of the expiration of a non-immigrant visa.A tourist who has the present intent to leave would be included as a legal alien described above. According to a Houston, Texas newspapers style guide, its use is pejorative and today the paper prefers the term illegal immigrant, particularly if this person intends to remain in the country indefinitely. Visit uk migration for further information.

Fly Fishing Gear Review: Finding The Best Gears In The Market

June 30th, 2009

Are you one of those fly fishing enthusiasts who always want to try the latest fly fishing gears sold in the market? If you are one of those adventurous fly fishing enthusiasts wants to use the latest fishing gears you should read fly fishing gear reviews first before you start buying those new trout fly fishing gears. You can find a lot of good fly fishing gear reviews in magazines and journals on fishing. There are also a number of reliable gear reviews online. However, you should be very selective when it comes to reading fly fishing gear reviews online. Make sure that you only read reviews from reliable online sources and know the difference between a legitimate product reviews from an advertisement. Do not confuse one from the other if you do not want to be misled into buying something that you do not really need or even want in the first place.

Will Reading Advertisements Give You The Right Information That You Need?

No, reading the advertisements on the paper or online will not cut it. Remember that fly fishing gear reviews and advertisements are two different things. Where fly fishing gear reviews give you a balanced presentation between the good and not so good features of the new fishing gear, the advertisement will only tell you what you want to hear about the new fishing gear. In other words, the fly fishing gear review will give you a fair and honest opinion about the product then allow you to make up your own mind as to whether or not this gear is good for you while the advertisement will entice you to buy the gear immediately. If you really want to get an honest opinion on the product that you are going to buy, you better stick with the reviews and forget about the advertisement. You should also test the gear yourself instead of relying solely on the opinion of the reviewers. Remember that different people have different preferences.

What To Look For In Fly Fishing Gear Reviews

Although most fly fishing gear reviews features in magazines and journals about fishing are reliable, not all of them will give you all the information that you need. Some of these reviews are so sketchy and will not give you the advantages and disadvantages of the product over the other products. To make sure that you are getting the right information from a fly fishing gear review, check the article for product feature comparison. A good review should be able to give you some ideas on specific features of the product.
